Promises and Trust

You don’t need to say “I promise” for something to be a promise. Just the fact that you said something means that you should keep your word.

One way to put it is like these song lyrics… “don’t say what you won’t do.” When you say something, it is expected that you will follow through on what you say. It doesn’t matter if it’s as simple as making a phone call or if it’s as complicated as pledging help and support in a person’s time of need.

To say something and not follow through is to diminish the trust that a person has in you. Without trust, without someone being able to trust your promises, how is a person supposed to have a relationship with you?
