Self-care is necessary

Many people equate selfishness with narcissism. They see taking care of their own needs as a character flaw. But just as too much selfishness becomes masochism in the person who lets others abuse him, too little narcissism is a recipe for disaster in relationships. Narcissism is healthy; too little or too much is not.

… When we talk about healthy narcissism, we mean a sound sense of one’s self as worthy, as effective in the world, as loved and appreciated, and as someone who  is not unlike the people around him. These characteristics of healthy narcissism develop over a lifetime and require constant nourishment to be sustained.
