Is anyone to blame?

Don’t play the blame game. Invite your friend to see the depression as the cause of the trouble in your friendship rather than as you or he being at fault. Whenever we feel badly, our natural reflex is to try to determine who or what is to blame.

… There are two problems with blaming one person for the way another feels. One is that it puts people on the defensive and usually results in increased distance and less collaboration. The second is that blaming one person for a problem in a relationship is usually a gross oversimplification of what is really going on.
