A depressed person’s interpretation of himself and of the world around him becomes very negative. Researchers refer to these negative perceptions and beliefs as cognitive distortions. In other words, depressed people are constantly looking for evidence that will support their negative view of themselves and life. Trying to hide your negative feelings from a depressed person is impossible. One way or another, consciously or subconsciously, she will know that you are feeling negatively about her.
