Depression and Sexual Activity

Depression itself can lower sex drive. Low libido, fatigue, and negative feelings about one’s body are all associated with depression and can contribute to sexual problems. Men who are depressed often report problems with impotency and their ability to have an orgasm. Depressed women have difficulty getting physically aroused and need more stimulation than usual to achieve orgasm. If you imagine for a moment what it must feel like to be depressed with low energy and feelings of worthlessness, you may be able to understand why your loved one is less interested in sex than usual.

… Often people who have been depressed tell us that they felt so unattractive during the depression that they could not believe that their partner would even want to be close to them.
