There used to be a very popular phrase that “a picture says a thousand words” and I think I used to agree with that at least slightly. I’ve come to believe that a picture doesn’t say a thousand words, it doesn’t even mumble a thousand words, it simply paraphrases and over-simplifies a thousand words. That process is not necessarily a bad thing if other things occur. That process of paraphrasing and over-simplifying is good for an introduction to an idea but when it is taken as the complete definition of an idea, as we humans tend to do, that is when it becomes less than helpful and possibly even dangerous.
