Thoughts On A Maya Angelou Quote

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude about it.”  ~Maya Angelou”

I dislike seeing this quote, because to me there’s a catch. I don’t think that by “change your attitude about it” she means to accept it. Also, change can mean many things, it doesn’t have to mean that you fix said problem. It could just be that instead of trying to change it alone, you get together with others. I mean for instance we have changed racism, but we damn sure haven’t fixed it. As well, I fail to believe that Maya would have told us to accept racism even if we couldn’t change it.

Please leave your thoughts. Sometimes the only way one can find the truth is to examine all possibilities.
