Thoughts Spurred By How The World Works
- Noam Chomsky, page 202
One thing we should already know is that people do not stop when something hurts; not when it hurts themselves and even less so when it hurts others. Maybe it’s a by-product of the whole “no pain, no gain” mind-set maybe it came about earlier, but it doesn’t seem to matter if the hurt is emotional, physical, economic, ecological, or anything else. People are going to do what they want to do, regardless of the consequences in the vast majority of situations.
Humanity could create a place like that of the movie “Book Of Eli” and they would sure enough ignore the fact that we were the cause of it. Think of global warming, if you mention it as a normal cycle in the existence of earth, no problem, people will accept it, but if we propose this cycle as an effect of humanity, it rarely seems to be accepted.
