Intro – To anyone who doesn’t recognize the significance of “nerd rage” then you are blessed. Nerd rage refers to a very unique and specific type of anger that often occurs among nerds and geeks. This happens for several reasons, none of which justify their actions.
Nerds take great pride in the way they choose to spend their time. For example, video game consoles are expensive, and most people can only afford games, controllers, and accessories for one console. Thus, they make their choice very carefully, and rigorously defend any suggestions to the contrary. They begin to identify with others who have made their choice, and band together. Perhaps you have witnessed a “console war” occur online or in person. An “Xbox 360 Fanboy” would not be able to admit the strengths of the Wii, and vice versa.
Thus some Nerds become very attached their console choice, and cannot see beyond their own opinions. When these opinions are challenged, Nerds can act very childish and immature. They feel as though someone has personally attacked them, rather than offering a possibly better alternative to their choice. It is very sad, and there’s almost no excuse for that kind of behavior. Although I’ve noticed that, when it comes to religion, this behavior arises in “Normal People”.
