Quick Thoughts On “Meditations &…”

This book I just finished this morning. Rene Descartes – Meditations and other metaphysical writings.

I’m not sure how to sum up this book, it was a lot to chew on, and of course being a lay person I still don’t grasp everything. The biggest part that stood out was his refutation of a supposed collaborator, and his correspondence with a queen.

He (Rene Descartes) is not a person I’ve heard a lot about but his phrase “I think therefore I am” is famous. I have always heard the phrase but never understood it until I read his book. Thoughts I had never heard, but not new for me.

The biggest premise I walked away with is how he said that the very fact that we have an idea of this thing we call God and we conceive of “his” immutable attributes must indicate that such an entity exists. My thoughts follow in forthcoming blogs.

Please leave your thoughts. Sometimes the only way one can find the truth is to examine all possibilities.
